Summary
Fun to use CD-Rom with dialogues and exercises. The content comes from the Fluent Tibetan package, but has some 20 additional dialogues. Note that the over 20 hours of drills that are part of the main package are not included on this CD.
Review
On this CD-ROM you will find the vocabulary and dialogues from the main Fluent Tibetan package, plus 20 additional dialogues. Other features are a pronunciation guide, a glossary and a diagnostic. The pronunciation diagnostic is interactive: a letter or a word is presented and the task is to identify a given element in it, like a suffix or a vowel.
This is a great learning tool and fun to use. The dialogues are presented in Tibetan on the screen and by clicking on a sentence you hear it spoken. It only takes another click to have it repeated, no bothersome rewinding needed here! The 20 additional dialogues are very good, lots of new vocabulary and meaningful content.
This CD-ROM works both with Windows and Mac. However, according to Snow Lion's web site it does not work with Windows 2000 (although one person emailed us saying he was able to run it on Win 2000). I have successfully installed it on Windows ME and on both of the Windows XP versions. We have received emails from a few people reporting that they are unable to run it on XP. We do not know why, but people experiencing problems should try to run it in Win 95 mode, and to upgrade their sound- and graphic drivers.
The quality of some of the audio recordings could be better, but this is not a big deal.
Update on February 6th, 2004: Snow Lion Publications has discontinued this product and according to them there is no plan to bring it back.
