Other Fonts
You should be seeing the Tibetan script if you are using Internet Explorer for Windows, since the font is embedded in the site and downloaded to your computer when you view it. If you are using IE for the Mac, Firefox, Netscape, Opera or any other browser, you will need to download the font yourself and install it on your system.
The font we use is TibetanMachineWeb, created by Lotsawa Tony Duff at the Tibetan Computer Company. This font has been made available for free under the General Public License through cooperation of Mr. Duff, The Trace Foundation and The Tibetan & Himalayan Digital Library (THDL).
Smooth Edges on the Font
Once you get the font working, make sure your Windows screen font setting is on optimum. You can determine your settings based on the Tibetan script examples below. The first line is an image of the font without smooth edges, note how jagged or "shaken" it appears. The second line is an image of the same font with smooth edges turned on, and the third line is how your system currently displays the font. Your settings are fine If row two looks about the same as row three. If row three looks more like row one, you probably have the smooth edges turned off.

You must download the font if the third line is not at all in Tibetan!
To turn the smooth edges on in Windows: Right click on the desktop and select properties to get the Display Properties screen. Next step is different based on the version of Windows you have:
- Windows XP: Select the "Appearance" tab , and click on the "Effects..." button. This will bring up new screen. On the Effect screen, toggle on "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:", and select "ClearType" in the drop down box below.
- Windows ME: Select the Effects tab and toggle on "Smooth edges of screen fonts".
Space Between Letters
There are sometimes extra spaces between some Tibetan letters in Internet Explorer. This happens mostly in the Sentence section and in the Text section. When this occurs you need to refresh the page; that will remove the spaces. Do not close the page and open it again, as that will result in the same spaces.
